Spam, Virus, and Abuse policy.
In order for 2KDatacom inc. to report spam, viruses, and other e-mail abuse we need the reporting e-mail to supply different information depending on which type of abuse is being reported, below are the specific policies regarding each type of report:

All abuse reports are to be sent to spam@mesquiteweb.com

Spam:
In order to report spam we need the reporting e-mail to contain BOTH the original e-mail headers and the original message body, this is best accomplished by copying the headers, then pasting them into a forward of the message body of the spam you are reporting. More detailed instructions on how to access the e-mail headers are posted at the bottom of this message.

Viruses:
In order to report viruses we need the original message headers and if your anti-virus caught the virus and reported the type of virus to you, what kind of virus it was. Do not forward the message or any attachments.

General Abuse:
If reporting general abuse from an outside source (ie: The e-mail came from an ip address/e-mail address not associated with one of the domains owned by 2KDatacom inc.) to a local account(ie: an e-mail address on a domain owned by 2KDatacom inc.): This message is to be treated like a spam and have the original headers pasted into a forward of the offending message.
If reporting Local abuse (from and to an e-mail address/ip address inside a domain owned by 2KDatacom inc.) This message is to be treated like a spam and have the original headers pasted into a forward of the offending message.
If reporting Abuse from a local source to an external source source, please follow whatever proceedures that provider has for reporting spam and other abuse.

Instructions for finding the headers of an e-mail message can be found here.

Mail server security update.
In order to increase security measures on our mail server
and reduce spam we are initiating email security updates
that require our customers to change a setting in their
off-line mail program such as Outlook Express, Microsoft
Outlook, Netscape, ect. This change will need to be made
by July 16 in order to allow your program to continue
receiving your email. This change only effects customers
using mesquiteweb.com or pikx.com email addresses and only
effects customers using off-line mail programs. At this
time, customers going directly to our website to view
their email and not using an off-line program will
also be effected.

Beginning July 16, 2KDatacom will require off-line mail
programs to use the full email address to log on instead
of just the username. If your email address is
example@mesquiteweb.com our mail server authenticates
that you are a customer by your username (example) and
youre password. After the security update, our mail
server will authenticate with the full email address
(example@mesquiteweb.com). This is a very simple
setting change that will require you to go into your
email settings and add the @pikx.com or @mesquiteweb.com
to your username. We have provided video walk throughs at
www.pikx.com/support/index.php

If you need further assistance or you use a program not
listed, please contact our techsupport at 702-346-2288
or outside of Mesquite 888-343-2288.

Please note that due to technical limitations we were
unable to provide video walk-throughs for Macintosh
computers or for Windows Vista.

Trouble e-mailing yahoo.
Hello,

Unfortunately, right now Yahoo.com is experiencing an issue with their new spam blocking scheme.  Recently they have attempted to setup a process called greylisting, greylisting is a process where the initial connection between the sending mail server and the receiving mail server is denied.  supposedly the greylisting server keeps a log of the connections and the next time the sending server connects the message should go through.  The theory is that spammers will not attempt to connect again, It's a good theory, and greylisting has a lot of potential.  As a matter of fact we even attempted the same thing, however we discovered quite quickly, and were force abandon our greylisting, that in practice greylisting causes all sorts of delivery problems.  Hopefully yahoo will come to their senses and abandon the greylisting technique until it's more stable.

Unfortunately for us, the only way to prevent greylisting is to get white listed, and yahoo only white lists the 'big name' mail servers automatically. And will not whitelist servers that host multiple domains, like ours does.

I've sent in a couple of trouble tickets for yahoo's support to see if they can correct the issue and get the messages to be delivered like normal, hopefully they will respond with a status update on this matter.

Internet security newsletter
Hello,

We're posting this message to alert our customers to the dangers of leaving your computer unprotected. Most computers come from the Manufacturer with trial versions of anti-virus programs but if that trial expires, that anti-virus program no longer receives the updates that keeps you protected. Also Most anti-viruses, which are designed for viruses, do nothing against the other forms of malware(bad software) IE: Trojan horses, worms, spy ware, ad ware etc.

Currently we've noticed an increase of suspicious traffic coming from our client network

In an effort to keep our customers aware of their options and responsibilities we are providing in this e-mail links to several of the most popular free security programs. Most offer a free and a pay version, the free versions are usually licensed for home use, and they may not install on server versions of windows. Also please note that these programs are for windows based computers, Mac and Linux versions of the programs might be available, check with the individual programs websites to see if they have a mac or Linux version.

Anti-spy ware:

Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/

This program is a Spy ware scanning program designed to provide protection against spy ware and Trojans on multiple fronts, with preemptive immunization utilities and a powerful hard drive scanner. This program is one of the best. Updates are released often, so make sure to keep your copy updated and run it often to keep your computer clean.

Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Like Spybot this program is updated often and is one of the best for removing ad ware and spy ware. It sets itself apart by being one of the few programs that can remove active spy ware/ad ware programs.

Firewall:

Comodo firewall pro: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Recently listed in PC magazine as one of the best free firewalls in the world, This firewall offers serious firewall security for the computer user on a budget.

Zonealarm: http://zonelabs.com

The most popular free firewall on the planet, this firewall is one of the best for keeping hackers out, and keeping your computer from becoming another zombie.

Anti-virus:

AVG free:http://free.grisoft.com

One of the better free anti-virus programs, it includes e-mail scanning and proactive file protection.

Avast:http://www.avast.com

One of the best free anti-viruses it scores 100% detection of in the wild viruses, avast also has emergency viral removal tools and other security packages.

Clamwin: http://www.clamwin.com

Clamwin is perfect for older computers, or computers where processor power is critical, it does not include an on access scanner, so files must be scanned manually, preventing this program from becoming a 'processes hog' the program does include a scanning scheduler, and is updated often.

Viruses and spy ware can infect your computer in a number of ways, It used to be that you could only become infected by running a virus installer which was disguised as a different program(Trojan horse) now days however, your computer can become infected simply by visiting a website that has malicious code written into it, usually by someone who has hacked into a legitimate website to implant this code.

These cyber criminals usually infect computers with software designed to turn their computers into what are referred to as Zombies, basically a computer that is controlled remotely, and link multiple Zombies together to form 'Zombie nets' it has been estimated that up to 80% of the Spam sent worldwide was sent by these zombie nets. Other crimes include Denial of service attacks, identity theft, and fraud. Don't let your computer aid in these crimes. Currently there are laws in the works that might make the owners of unprotected and infected computers liable for the damages their computers do, much like the owners of unsecured wireless networks are liable for what happens if a criminal jumps onto their network and commits a cyber crime.

Please make the effort to keep your computer secure, as anyone who's had to have a computer repaired due to a virus can tell you, an ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure.

*2KDatacom is making these recommendations solely on the basis of giving our customers the information they need to keep their computers secure, we do not provide any technical support for any of the programs mentioned in this message, all support is provided by the publishers of the respective programs. There for 2KDatacom cannot help with the installation, maintaining, use or removal of any of the programs listed here.
